Still swooning over every detail of the 2019 Southern Living Idea house! I think we were all a bit surprised last year to find out that our little town, Amelia Island would be the host of the 2019 Southern Living Idea house! It’s been a lot of fun to see the island get some lovin’ from the media and to watch Crane Island develop!
Crane Island is actually a little barrier island off of Amelia Island that I had no idea could be developed until a few years ago. Now it’s home to an absolutely beautiful community that will eventually house a little over 100 lucky families. The island will also house a gorgeous nature park open to the public.
Last week I had the pleasure of touring the Southern Living Idea House with the designers Heather Chadduck Hillegas and Mackin Thompson of Heather Chadduck Interiors, The Historical Concepts Team, SL Editor Sid Evans, The Riverside Homes builders, and John Hillman and Tim Lang of the Crane Island sales team. I loved hearing the heart behind the community and all that went into the design of the idea house. The design team and community developers wanted the river house to feel like it had been lived in for 100 years (without the challenges of actually living in a 100 year old home!) , so they used a generational architecture approach. The style of the home reflects everything I love about the old homes in our Fernandina Beach Historic District. Jim Strickland said it best, when he shared that the home has a “comfortable feeling that somebody has been there before you.”
In addition to the home’s stunning architecture and truly impressive craftsmanship, Heather Chadduck Interiors killed it with the details! Heather and Mackin are both so talented and were a pleasure to meet! They chose a dream team of vendors to feature throughout the home. When you come to tour the home (which I highly recommend doing!) you’ll find sources for everything from the pillowcases to the paint colors! Heather shares my mantra, “an antique in every room” and my recent obsession with wallpaper and contrast painted trim! So many inspiring details and interesting ideas weaved throughout the home!
I could go on and on about the details that I appreciated most but I’ll let the photos do the talking! This is a small glimpse of all that the 4,500+ square foot home has to offer, so be sure to schedule a tour! It’s a great excuse to make a trip to Amelia Island which I do believe is the best island in the South! ๐
You can purchase tickets at the home or online. Tours will be available June 8 – December 8, on Wednesdays-Sundays. A portion of all ticket proceeds will be given to the Amelia Island Museum of History!
Ps. The home is for sale so…. you can call it yours! I sure wish I had an affiliate link for this one! Hahaha!
love y’all! mckenzie
