Hey you. Happy Monday! Lately Ive been hearing a lot of married folks expressing how work, kiddos, and plain old business have severely cut into their date nights. That’s terrifying to me (and something I just WON’T let happen) as date nights are my favorite thing ever. Quality time is definitely my love language which means if date night’s go, so does my sanity. (If you don’t know your love language already, you should! Find our yours here!)
During one of my bridal showers, the hostesses asked each guest to leave a note with a helpful hint to to a happy marriage. Y’all wouldn’t believe it but more than half of those sweet notes read a little something like this, “keep dating!” So that’s my plan. Keep on dating until we can’t date anymore.
While some of our date nights are simple and sweet, we try to mix things up every now and then. Pizza, champagne, and a good show to binge watch sure makes for a good time (and we make sure there are plenty of those on the calendar!) but after three years, we’ve gotten a bit more creative with our approach to date night. Take an interest in your significant other’s hobbies, try something you’ve never done, think outside the box. Heck, go buy a Groupon for couples rock climbing or sign up for concealed weapons classes together. Whatever floats your boat! If you’re looking for untraditional date night ideas, you’ll love these tried and true ideas from sweet Southern couples. Ps. You’ll find our favorite ideas on page 3!
Busy as bees? Aren’t we all. Take a minute to drop a few events into your iCal or planner! Making date night happen means actually planning time for date night to happen. It’s more than easy to get sidetracked with to-do’s and social happenings, so don’t put date night on the back burner! Budget accordingly in advance, line up a sitter, and make reservations as needed. You can do it! Make a habit out of prioritizing date night. Your marriage will thank you.
Preaching to the choir here. In all honesty I’m the number one offender of this rule and for that reason I’ve included it in this post. It’s tough but it makes all the difference in the world. My cell phone is constantly notifying me of something – emails, work to-do’s, blog mentions, you name it! That thing never shuts up. It’s such a distraction and a big no-no for a successful date night. Turn that thing off. Like OFF off. 😉 I promise your date night will be 1000 times better!
