**Excuse the horrible pic quality – it was SUPER bright and I didn’t get a chance to play around with camera settings. Oops!
Last week Pearce and I had a little free time after his Saturday class (he’s in a a graduate program right now working to become an even better teacher – Go, P, Go!) so we decided to do something a little different than our usual Saturday date night options. We hadn’t explored the walls of historic Fort Clinch since we were in high school, despite doing lots of other fun things on property. Growing up here and now living here again, we forget about the many “touristy” things to do that are actually really fun. I’m usually down to throw on a touristy outfit (hat always included) and drape my giant camera around my neck to get my exploration on. In the early days of our marriage, this embarrassed Pearce but I think he’s okay with it now.
Anywho… exploring the Fort was so much fun. If you enjoy history even just a little (hands raised over here!) you’ll love visiting Fort Clinch. Rumor has it that the Fort looks just the same as it did back in the day. And if you don’t believe me, just ask one of the soldiers dressed in period uniform to give you the down low. They’re always willing to chat!
I’ve visited a couple other forts (one of which being Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine) and find ours to be the most fascinating. We went on a Saturday about and hour and half before the park closes so it felt like we had the place to ourselves! There were probably 50+ people there but the fort is so big you don’t really notice.
^^^ Cutie in a backwards hat. It’s a new thing for him and I’m diggin’ it.
