Friends, I’m so excited for y’all to meet this amazing lady! Sally reached out a few months ago to introduce herself and I’m SO glad she did. Her art is stunning – full of whimsy, color, and passion, but I think it’s her sweet Southern personality and positive outlook on life that originally won me over! Y’all be sure to give her a big warm Somethin’ Southern welcome! Thanks so much for joining us, Sally! xo
Oh my lanta, the food. You know it was a good vacation if you came home and discovered your pants are WAY too snug, amen?! Charleston has the tastiest cuisine. SOOOO many (probably too many) options, but it’s all. so. good.
Last year we started a little tradition. The day after Christmas Pearce and I take off on a vacation to recover from the madness (I mean that in the best way possible!) of Christmas, escape our normal routine, and spend uninterrupted time together. It’s my favorite. Last year we went to Asheville, NC and this year we made the trip to Charleston, SC. Why Charleston? Pearce had never been before this trip, I adore the city, and it’s close to home.
Hi, friends. Today’s post is a bit more personal than what I usually write about but I really wanted to chat a bit about what I
want need to see more of in the new year. 2016 was a really great year – lots of firsts, lots of challenges overcome, and lots of happy memories. I don’t want to go into the new year with a ton of fancy resolutions or strive to reach too many big goals. In fact, I kind of want to do the opposite. I want to do a lot less striving for more and instead thrive where I am right now. My word of the year last year was rest. This year, I’m not choosing a word. Not because I don’t like the idea, but because I didn’t feel like any one word was a good fit for the feeling I have about 2017. While I definitely do want to get more organized, get into better shape, and eat healthier – that’s not what I’m focusing on this year. Below are a few things I want to see a whole lot more of (and a few things I want to see a lot less of!) in the new year.
More beach days. The beach is my happy place. Whether it’s a quick walk or a full day laying on the sand – I feel alive when I’m on the beach. Who knows, we may not live at the beach forever, so I want to soak it in as much as possible. I so want more of this.
Less working at night. Confession – I write to you now from my kitchen island, past 6pm. Oops. In the new year I want to do less of this, but tonight I’ll give myself a little grace for the sake of finishing this post. When Pearce and I are both home in the evenings, I’d love to spend more time with him instead of hitting these keys. Unless of course he needs a little alone time with his xbox – he teaches 500 middle schoolers every week, so sometimes he needs that. Anyone else cringe when they read FIVE HUNDRED middle schoolers?! Yeah, he’s a saint. 😉
More time in the Word. I want mornings where I dive into my bible and forget about the time. I want new revelation from what I read in the Word. I want more scripture adorning the walls of our home. I want to pull others into His Word with me – through social media, random text messages, or coffee dates. However it happens, I just want more of it.
Less time comparing. This one is hard to write because I almost hate to admit it. But it’s a thing. Comparison is the thief of joy. It’s a nasty trap. And I’m not getting sucked into it this year! That may mean I unfollow 300 bloggers on instagram – but a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. Cheers to having enough, being enough, and being happy right where I am.
What do y’all want to see more (or less!) of in 2017?
I don’t know about y’all but this year was pretty darn perfect! Definitely busy, definitely challenging, and definitely amazing. 2016 brought lots of firsts, fun achievements, goals accomplished, and memories made. Below are links to my 16 favorite blog posts! I can’t thank y’all enough for your love and support this year! Cheers to an awesome 2017!
Be warned, this post is MUCH longer than usual. I got a little carried away snapping pics of Christmas details. But somehow managed to forget a few things.. oh well! Our first Christmas in our first home is a special one and I want to remember every last detail. I’m a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to holiday decor – thing tartan, red, green, and a splash of gold. But this year I attempted (baby steps, y’all!) to incorporate a few less-traditional pieces into the mix. Now the pride and joy of this year’s Christmas decor is most definitely the nine foot tall, Caroline Blue Sapphire Christmas tree taking up most of our living room. I love every inch of her. Pearce’s parents cut it down for us on Thanksgiving and lugged it back to our house from GA. They’re the sweetest and we LOVE a good Christmas tree!
Hope y’all enjoy our little holiday home tour!
It’s almost here! My favorite day of the year is just a few sleeps away. As most of my readers know, we’re hosting the big event this year. First on my list of Christmas prep to-do’s was getting the table set and ready to go. We still need to pop in the leaf and set up a few seats at the bar, but other than that we’re pretty much ready to go. I did a little trial run with the place settings yesterday, these photos are the result of that. I’ve also left all glassware off the table because we’ll be setting up a couple drink stations for easy access throughout the day. Let the festivities begin!
